9 Lessons is a set of animations designed to accompany the traditional '9 lessons and carols' service which is performed in many churches at Christmas time. The structure is very simple and generally follows the following pattern: A Bible reading (lesson), followed by a carol (or hymn) on the theme of the reading, followed by either a poem, or prayer, or other piece of writing on the theme of the reading. This pattern is continued throughout the service, telling the story of the coming of Jesus, from the sinfulness of humanity and it's need for a saviour, to prophecy foretelling of the coming of a messiah, through to the birth of Christ and what this means for humankind and God's creation.
The animations are created as loops to provide an illustration of the themes within the bible passages. They have been coloured so as to created a warm ambience within a worship context, and can be kept on screen until the next passage is read out. Of course you may use these animations as you choose, they certainly are not limited to being used in the 9 lessons and carols context. You are free to be as creative as you want in your usage of them.
9 Lessons is a Flash file and you will need Flash Player installed on your computer in order to play it which is available to download free from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/. Most browsers have flash player installed so alternatively open the file from within your browser. Once opened you can easily navigate through the animated loops by clicking on the arrow in the bottom right hand corner. It all runs within one file so a loop can be left running as long as you like and then click to move on to the next. Watch it on youtube here
